Call the Midwife

We were also invited to take our boats, Owl and Hampton to take part in the filming of an episode of Call the Midwife. That sounds rather grand but, in fact, we were merely to act as background to the main action.

The episode was supposed to have taken place in Limehouse in the early 60s. It was actually filmed at Bulbourne in 2016.  We spent three days absorbed by all the elaborate lengths that the film makers went to in order to evoke the docks of half a century ago.

Great lengths were taken by the director to ensure period authenticity. A large fence was erected to block out the modern pub and the washing on the line was carefully arranged each day in exactly the same position.
